About 4-H

4-H clubs encourage youth, ages 5 to 19, to learn by doing. 4-H programs actively involve youth in quality experiences that focus on lifelong learning of values and skills. There are a variety of 4-H clubs and groups that young people can join.

Youth that want to join horse 4-H they don’t have to have a horse. This is called the horseless program. In this program youth still learn the same thing as the youth who have horses.

All the shows above count as horse show credit for 100% Participation for the 2023-2024 4-H Year. All members have to show or help at 2 shows to get their credit and work 4 hours.

4-H Mounted Clinic will be Hot on Saturday, May 18th

Mark your Calendars and get your horse and gear ready. Washoe County 4-H Horse Leaders will present the first Mounted Clinic for 2024 on March 9, at the Reno Sparks Livestock Events Center. Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. The clinic starts promptly at 9 a.m. The clinic will feature an Opening Demonstration of Hot Shoeing, presented by Tyler Mitchell of Western States Farrier Service.
Following the opening there will be two rotating sessions: Trail Obstacles presented by Kathy McCovey, and Ring Etiquette presented by Emilee Nicora Drawver. Mounted clinics require all participants to wear an ASTM-SEI approved equestrian helmets. Proper attire, a club 4-H shirt or 4-H dress (a white long-sleeve shirt with green tie or scarf, long pants or jeans and
boots), is also required.
Everyone should bring their own water bottle and snacks. There will not be a snack bar. Horseless members, please bring you stick horses so you can practice
during each rotation.
RSVPs are required by Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
